About #coronavirus
Here you have some interesting information that the School of Prevention and Integral Security shared on their web page:
“Regarding the situation of coronavirus 2.019-nCoV in China, UAB is in contact and follows the instructions given by the Health Department, the Public Health Agency (ASPCAT) and the Ministry of Health. In this sense, health centres, including the UAB Healthcare Service, have an action protocol dictated by the ASPCAT if a case is suspected.
The UAB is in contact with students and staff who have been or are in China on exchange programmes, in order to advise them, keep them informed and coordinate any actions that may arise.
According to the ASPCAT, “neither in Catalonia nor in Spain as a whole can we rule out the possibility that imported cases may arise. If this were to happen, the probability of secondary cases is currently estimated to be low, since, with the information available, person-to-person transmission is not high and the early implementation of prevention and control measures would greatly reduce the risk”.
The most common symptoms include cough, sore throat, fever and shortness of breath. In more severe cases, it can cause pneumonia, significant shortness of breath, kidney failure and even death. The most severe cases usually occur in people who are older or have a co-morbidity such as heart disease, lung disease or immune problems.
The Department of Health has established the generic measures of individual protection currently applicable to respiratory diseases, which include performing frequent hand hygiene, especially after direct contact with sick people or their environment; avoiding close contact with people who show signs of a respiratory condition, such as coughing or sneezing; maintaining a distance of approximately one meter from people with symptoms of acute respiratory infection; covering the mouth and nose with tissues when coughing or sneezing and washing hands.
The Health Alert and Emergency Coordination Centre (CCAE) of the Ministry of Health issues a daily communication of the situation, informing of the changes and instructions to be followed, at 1 pm.
