The drought in Catalonia continues to get worse, we are currently in a state of alert as this year is extraordinarily dry and the volume of reserves in the reservoirs is very low.
Reducing water consumption is essential both if we want to save money and to protect the environment. Here are 9 tips to save water in the apartment:
- Short showers.
- Take advantage of the shower water. Collect the water that comes out until it warms up with a bucket and use it for the toilet or to mop the floor.
- Turn off the faucet when not in use. Prevent the water from splashing while you brush your teeth, scrub the dishes or soap your body.
- Regulates the WC cistern. Put a bottle of water inside the cistern, this way when you pull the cistern, water consumption will be less.
- Do not use the toilet as a wastebasket. Every time we flush the cistern we waste water and money, throw the waste in a bin and you will avoid wasting water.
- Wash fruit and vegetables in a container instead of under the tap.
- Defrost food naturally. Take them out in time so that they thaw at their own pace instead of with the hot water jet.
- Make sure that the taps close properly and there are no leaks.
- Soak the pots and pans, this will allow you to use less water when rinsing them later.
